Bacardi Philippines has partnered with Waves for Water and Masungi Georeserve Foundation to donate 42 units of sustainable water filtration system to the Sitio Tablon community in Barangay Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal on June 20, 2018.
The volunteers assembled and demonstrated the use of water filters, as well as the proper cleaning process.
This step will help the water filter units last in the long run. Attesting to the reliability of the filtering system, associates from Bacardi and Waves for Water themselves took the first sips of filtered rainwater.
Members of the 80th Infantry Battalion also assisted in the event as partners of the georeserve in uplifting communities in Rizal.
Over a hundred volunteers, school officials, and beneficiaries with their family members attended the event. The volunteers also donated a water filter to Tablon Elementary School to allow students access to clean water.
Prior to this, the residents paid for gallons of mineral water to drink, or extracted water from deep wells for consumption, which may be contaminated by disease-causing bacteria present in the environment.
Waves for Water is a non-profit organization providing portable water filters to communities with no access to clean drinking water. On the other hand, Bacardi supports charitable organizations in addressing local community issues through their Spirit for Life initiative.
The event is a part of Masungi Georeserve’s effort towards sustainable development for surrounding communities. Previously, the organization has led health and sanitary programs in elementary schools as well as water filtration system donations aided by like-minded organizations.
