Drawing the Land: Perpetual for Nature
What stories does the land tell, once we stop to take a deeper look?
"Drawing the Land: Perpetual for Nature" is a nature walk and art journaling workshop facilitated by Kathleen Baraan, a nature-based art educator with a background in conservation ecology, that invites participants to slow down, observe, and reflect on the land as a living record of time. Through a guided nature walk along Masungi Georeserve’s Origin Trail, paired with landscape observation and reflection prompts, participants will learn to look beyond the aesthetics of the landscape to foster a meaningful connection with their natural surroundings.
After the nature walk, participants will unwind with a light breakfast of Ube Champorado or Arroz Caldo as they engage in an art journaling session, tapping into their creativity to trace the land based on their reflections and observations from the trail.
This workshop is an invitation to cultivate a deeper way of seeing—to understand landscapes not as just sceneries, but as living places constantly being changed through natural processes and human actions. By learning to read the evidence around us, we begin to see the land not only for what it is today, but for what it has been, what it is becoming, and what it might become in the future.
